According the P.L. 108-270, the Western Shoshone Claims Dis­tribution Act, there is an administra­tive committee established to oversee the distribution of educational grants and assistance under subsection (b)(2).  This committee is called the Western Shoshone Education Trust Fund – Administrative Committee (WSETF-AC).

WSETF-AC members serve a term of 4 years.  The Committee shall:

  • Distribute interest funds from the Trust Fund
  • For each fiscal year, compile a list of names of all individuals approved to receive those funds;
  • Ensure that those funds are used in a manner consistent with this Act;
  • Develop written rules and procedures, subject to the approval of the Secretary,
  • Carry out financial management
  • Use a portion of the interest funds to pay the reasonable and necessary expenses of the Committee
  • Employ an independent certified public accountant to pre­pare a financial statement for each fiscal year  
  • For each fiscal year, the Committee shall provide documentation to the Secretary, to each organization represented on the Committee, and, on the request of a Western Shoshone member

The Western Shoshone Educational Trust Fund was established via the Public Law 108-270 with the mission of distribution of educational assistance for the Western Shoshone People who were eligible for the Western Shoshone Claims Judgment Roll, and/or individuals who prove to be lineal descendant of an individual appearing on the said judgment roll, and who satisfies all eligibility criteria established by the committee.

Scholarship Deadlines

  • Spring Semester – JANUARY 15th
  • Fall Semester – JUNE 15th

Students must be enrolled on a full-time basis and must be maintaining a 2.0 term GPA. We only offer scholarships for one undergraduate/vocational degree and we do not fund graduate or higher level degrees.

This award is designed to supplement your college funding.  On this website there are listings of other funding sources. Contact your school’s financial aid office to find out about “in-house” funding that you would be eligible for.  Additionally, it is always a good idea to check for tuition breaks for Native American students.  We wish you the best in your academic endeavors!
